What number does each denominator multiply to?

Let’s try 20

5*4 = 20 so 4 *4 =16
16/20

4*5=20
5*3=15
15/20

Now they both have the same denominator so you could add them:
15/20 + 16/20 = 31/20

our answer is 31/20

Answer:

1 11/20

Explanation:

Find a common denominator. Note that what you do to the denominator, you do to the numerator.

Multiply 4 to both the numerator and denominator of the fraction (4/5), and 5 to both the numerator and denominator of the fraction (3/4)

(4/5)(4/4) = 16/20

(3/4)(5/5) = 15/20

Add:

16/20 + 15/20 = (16 + 15)/20 = 31/20

Simplify. Change the improper fraction into a mixed fraction:

31/20 = (20 + 11)/20 = 1 11/20

1 11/20 is your answer.
