-17 stays there, you first do what's next to the parenthesis

-2 * -3 = 6

then you multiply 6 * 4 = 24

since you left the -17 aside it should look like this

-17-(24) <---- -17 + 24

=7

−17−(2)(−3)(4)

=−17−(−6)(4)

=−17−(−24)

= 7
