The curve y=p+qx-2x^2 passes through the point A ((7,6) and (-1,-2). How do I find what p and q are? I tried to differentiate to have one unknown variable, but that doesn't work. So how do I approach this the best way?

Answer:

The answer to your question is: p = 13 q = 13

Explanation:

Obtain 2 equations where the unknown quantities are p and q.

A ( 7, 6)

B (-1, -2)

Equation 1 6 = p + 7q - 2(7)²

6 = p + 7q - 98

p + 7q = 104 ------------- (1)

Equation 2 -2 = p - q - 2(-1)²

-2 = p - q - 2

p - q = 2 - 2

p - q = 0 ---------------- (2)

p = q

p + 7p = 104

8p = 104

p = 104/8

p = 13

q = 13
