Kathleen lost a tooth today. Now she has lost 4 more than her sister Cara lost.

1. Write an expression to represent the number of teeth Cara has lost. Let K represent the number of teeth Kathleen lost.
2. Write an expression to represent the number of teeth Kathleen has lost. Let C represent the number of teeth Cara lost.
3. If Cara lost 3 teeth, how many teeth has Kathleen lost?

Answer: I’ll help you out!

1. we know that Cara lost 4 less teeth than Kathleen, and the number of teeth Kathleen lost is represented by K. So, any equation that shows K-4=C will do.(feel free to use that equation)

2. this is essentially the same as the first equation, just reversed. So use + instead of -, and instead of ending up with =C you should end up with =K

You are still using the same plugs, C, 4 and K.

3. This is basic math. Cara lost 3 teeth, Kathleen lost 4 more than cara. So, 3+4=?
