If x varies directly as y, and x=8 when y=24 , what is the value of x when y =6

Answer : x is equal to 2

Okay, so this means they're proportional. 8/24=x/6. You can do this with cross multiplication

24 6

Make sure you have both the x's on the top and both the y's on the bottom. Then cross multiply. 8x6 divided by 24 = 2. Check your answer, and you'll see that 2/6=8/24. (2x4=8, 6x4=24)
