At which stage of mitosis are chromosomes usually photographed in the preparation of a karyotype?

Answer:

I am not one hundred percent certain but something is better than nothing so just interpret the following carefully. I am certain it would be one of the following three prophase, prometaphase, or metaphase. The reason for my ambiguity is because chromosomes condense and cross over in prophase. That being said they are visible by microscope in prophase. Based on that I would have concluded prophase are prometaphase. But to be certain I researched karyotype photographing prior to commenting. Some sources stated that generally these photographs are takin in metaphase so I am just confused. I hope something here will help you come to some conclusion. Sorry for not giving you a clear answer.
