Carbon exchange is known as the Carbon cycle, In this cycle, the biosphere and the atmosphere are in constant interaction because of the different organisms that use carbon in some way. Plants are able to capture the CO2 of the atmosphere and transform the carbon to energy and oxygen through Photosynthesis. Also, plants liberate the Glucose produced in Photosynthesis to stimulate plant growth through a process called Plant respiration.

Photosynthesis exchanges about 120 gigatons of carbon per year and with plant respiration´s 60 gigatons of carbon per year they are the two largest exchange processes between biosphere and atmosphere.
