Answer:

Width if the school flag is 72 inches

Height is 21.3 inches

Explanation:

Washington Middle School’s school flag has a height:width ratio of 12:27.

(height)/(width)  is (12)/(27)

Given school flag is 32 inches height

Let x be the width

Make a proportion and find the width

(12)/(27)=(32)/(x)

cross multiply it

12x=27(32)

divide both sides by 12

x=72

Width of the school flag is 72 inches

the school flag is 48 inches wide

Let y be the width

Make a proportion and find the length

(12)/(27)=(y)/(48)

cross multiply ,
12(48)= 27x

divide both sides by 27

y=21.3 inches

Height is 21.3 inches

Set up ratios:

The given ratio is Height: Width

To set up a ratio write it as ratio height / real height = ratio width /real width

You are given the height of 32

The ratio becomes:

12/32 = 27/X (x is the real width)

Cross multiply:

12x = (32*27)

12x = 864

Divide both sides by 12:

x = 864 /12

x = 72 inches wide.

Now do the same for the height, this time let x be the unknown height:

12/x = 27/48

Cross multiply:

27x = (12*48)

27x = 576

Divide both sides by 27

x = 576 / 27

x = 21.3 inches high.
