Answer:

The length of the rectangle is 10 inches and the width is 4 inches

Explanation:

Let

L -----> the length of rectangle in inches

W ----> the width of rectangle in inches

we know that

The perimeter of rectangle is

P=2(L+W)

we have

P=28\ in

so

28=2(L+W)

simplify

14=(L+W) ----> equation A

L=3W-2 ----> equation B

Solve the system of equations by substitution

Substitute equation B in equation A and solve for W

14=(3W-2+W)

14=(4W-2)

4W=14+2

4W=16

W=4\ in

Find the value of L

L=3W-2

L=3(4)-2=10\ in

therefore

The length of the rectangle is 10 inches and the width is 4 inches
