The characteristics of earthquakes occurring along a divergent plate:
Divergent plates are the plates that move away from each other. Earthquakes occur along a divergent plate like the mid Atlantic ridge and the east Pacific rise and these earthquakes are called the spreading centers and are relatively small and not very big.
The earthquakes are common here and are restricted to a narrow zone which is close to the ridge. These are consistently at less than 30 km in depth. And the earthquakes along these plates are shallow focus earthquakes.
