For example, when people smoke is behavior and if they know smoking is injurious to health is cognition then they are in the state of cognitive dissonance.

This term was first used by Leon Fe-stinger. It described that we all have an inner drive that holds our attitude and behavior in harmony and avoids disharmony that is called the principle of cognitive consistency.
