Answer:

1,290 bass

Explanation:

In City Lake, researcher caught, marked and released 258 bass.

When they took a sample

26 out of 130 bass were marked =
(26)/(130)

We calculate the percentage of 26 out of 130 =
(26)/(130)* 100

20%

Let the total number of bass in the lake = x

20% of x = 258

0.20x = 258

x =
(258)/(0.20)

x = 1,290

Estimated number of bass in the lake would be 1,290.

26 out of 130 were marked.

Divide 26 by 130:

26/130 = 0.20

20% of the bass caught were tagged.

Now divide the total amount caught and tagged by that percentage:

258 / 0.20 = 1,290

There are 1,290 bass in the lake.
