The number G of gears a machine can make varies directly as the time T it operates. If it can make 6000 gears in 5 hours, how many gears can it make in 6 hours?

For this case we have that by definition, a direct variation can be represented as:

G = kt

Where:

k: It is the constant of proportionality

According to the data we have to:

6000 = k (5)\\k = \frac {6000} {5}\\k = 1200

So, to find the number of gears in 6 hours we have:

G = 1200 (6)\\G = 7200

Thus, the number of gears in 6 hours is 7200.

Answer:

G = 7200
