0.05(x + 4) + 0.10(x) = 1.25
A) Jacob has four more dimes than nickles in his pocket, for a total of $1.25. What is x, the number of dimes in his pocket?
B) Jacob has four more nickels than dimes in his pocket, for a total of $1.25. What is x, the number of dimes in his pocket?
C) Jacob has four times the number of dimes than nickles in his pocket, for a total of $1.25. What is x, the number of dimes in his pocket?
D) Jacob has four times the number of nickels than dimes in his pocket, for a total of $1.25. What is x, the number of dimes in his pocket?

Answer:

Given equation :
0.05(x + 4) + 0.10(x) = 1.25

1 dime = $0.10

1 nickel = $0.05

So, x is the no. of dimes in equation and x+4 is the number of nickels

So, Option B is true Jacob has four more nickels than dimes in his pocket, for a total of $1.25.

0.05(x + 4) + 0.10(x) = 1.25

0.05x +0.2 + 0.10x = 1.25

0.15x +0.2= 1.25

0.15x = 1.25-0.2

0.15x = 1.05

x = (1.05)/(0.15)

x =7

Hence the number of dimes in his pocket is 7

Answer:

B) Jacob has four more nickels than dimes in his pocket, for a total of $1.25. What is x, the number of dimes in his pocket?

Explanation:

The equation is multiplying the number of dimes (x) by the value of a dime 0.10. it is also adding 4 to the value of x ( 4 more nickels than dimes) and multiplying that by the value of a nickel.
