width = (3x - 5) inches

Perimeter of rectangle = 70 inches

2 * ( l + b) = 70

2 * ( x + 3x - 5) = 70

4x - 5 = 70 / 2

4x - 5 = 35

4x = 35 + 5

4x = 40

x = 40/4

x = 10

Length = 10 inches

width = 3x - 5 = 3*10 - 5 = 30- 5 = 25 inches
