Well a headright system is a legal grant of land to settlers. Headrights are most notable for their role or duty in the expansion of the thirteen British colonies in North America; the Virginia Company of London gave headrights to settlers, and the Plymouth Company followed suit.

Actually, the headright system was first created in 1618 in Jamestown, Virginia. It was used as a passage to attract new settlers to the region and address the labor shortage. With the emergence of tobacco farming, a vast supply of workers was needed. New settlers who paid their way to Virginia received 50 acres of land. However, most of the workers who arrived in Virginia were indentured servants, people who pledged to perform five to seven years of labor.

Headright system is the facility of giving large grants of land to the head of the household, usually fifty acres and those who helped populate colonies in America for them, the Virginia Company gave hundreds of acres because they were prepared to set sail across the Great Atlantic Ocean in order to populate the thirteen British Colonies in America.

English men were ready and they also paid for the journey of indentured servants who agreed to migrate along with them in order to take care of the plantations that took place in the lands given as grants. Indentured servants were mostly from Virginia who settled in America.

This issue of huge grants of lands which lead to the immigration of English men in American Soil created rigidities between the Britishers and Native Americans.
