A daredevil is shot out of a cannon at 48.3 ◦ to the horizontal with an initial speed of 32.5 m/s. A net is positioned a horizontal distance of 32.8 m from the cannon. At what height above the cannon should the net be placed in order to catch the daredevil? The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s 2 . Answer in units of m.

Answer:19.09 m

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

\theta =48.3^(\circ)

initial Velocity(u)=32.5 m/s

Distance given(x)=32.8

We know equation of trajectory of Projectile is given by

y=x\tan \theta -(gx^2)/(2u^2cos^2\theta )

y=32.8* \tan 42.8-(9.8(32.8)^2)/(2(32.5)^2* (cos48.3)^2)

y=30.37-11.278=19.09 m

thus Net must be kept at a vertical distance of 19.09 m above canon
