A square with the area of 18 cm^2 is placed beside a square with area 28 cm^2 write a simplified expression for the perimeter of the shape.

The answer should be : 6√2+8√7cm

Please help, I cannot figure out the answer.

Small square = 18 cm²

Big square = 28 cm²

First, find the lenght of the sizes

side small triangle = √18

side of big triangle = √28

Find the prime factors:

18 2 28 2

9 3 14 2

3 3 7 7

1 1

Then:

18 = 2 x 3² 28 = 2² x 7

√18 = 3√2 √28 = 2√7

Perimeter = 4 sides

= Perimeter of the small square + perimeter big square

= 4(3√2) + 4(2√7)

= 12√2 + 8√7 cm
