First, you would combine like terms so you would - 5x from both sides and you should end up with 3=20+2x and then you would - 20 from both sides which would lead you with -17 = 2x and then you divide both sides by 2 and the answer should be...

8.5=x
tell me if i’m right!! i am only in 7th grade

3 + 5x = 20 + 7x

First subtract 20 to both sides

-17 + 5x = 7x

Next subtract 5x to both sides (we are trying to get x all in one side)

-17 = 2x

Divide 2 to isolate the x

-17/2 = x or -8.5 = x
