Genetic diversity is measured in terms of allele frequencies (the relative proportions of a specific allele in a gene pool). A population of 3,200 mice has 4,200 dominant G alleles and 2,200 recessive g alleles. What is the frequency of recessive g alleles in the population?

Answer: 0.34375

Explanation:

Given : Genetic diversity is measured in terms of allele frequencies .

Allele frequencies : The relative proportions of a specific allele in a gene pool. (1)

A population of 3,200 mice has 4,200 dominant G alleles and 2,200 recessive g alleles.

Combined alleles in gene pool= 4200+2200=6400

Then from (1), the frequency of recessive g alleles in the population will be proportion of recessive g alleles in gene pool :-


(2200)/(6400)=0.34375

Hence, the frequency of recessive g alleles in the population= 0.34375
