A swimming pool can be filled by an inlet pipe in 10 hours and emptied by an outlet pipe in 12 hours. One day the pool is empty and the owner opens the inlet pipe to fill the pool. However, he forgets to close the outlet. With both pipes open, how long will it take to fill the pool?

Answer:

time period is 60 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

given data

inlet pipe = 10 hours

outlet pipe = 12 hours

to find out

With both pipes open, how long will it take to fill the pool

solution

we know here

In one hour
(1)/(10) of the pool is filled

and in one hour
(1)/(12) of the pool emptied

we consider time period is x and we apply the equation that is

(x)/(10) - (x)/(12) = 1

x = 60 hours

so time period is 60 hours
