3. You complain that the hot tub in your hotel suite is not hot enough. The hotel tells you that they will increase the temperature by 10 degrees each hour. If the current temperature of the hot tub is 75º F, what will be the temperature of the hot tub after 3 hours?

HELP PLEASE!

Answer:

95* F

Explanation:

There are two ways to solve this, either by using the Arithmetic Sequence Formula or by simply adding 10, 3 times, to 75.

Arithmetic Sequence Formula: aN = a1 + (n-1) d

d (change) = 10

a1 (first term) = 75

a3 = 75 + (3-1)10

a3 = 75 + (2)10

a3 = 75 + 20

a3 = 95

Adding:

Just add 10 to 75, 3 times.

75 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 95

Answer:

105 °F

Explanation:

Add 10 °F to the temperature for each of the 3 hours:

75 °F + 10 °F + 10 °F + 10 °F = 105 °F

_____

Of course, multiplication was invented to make repeated addition easier. Multiplying the increase each hour by the number of hours gives the total increase:

75 °F + (3 h)(10 °F/h) = 75 °F +30 °F = 105 °F

The temperature of the hot tub after 3 hours will be 105 °F.
