An adolescent who recently moved to a new school in a different town presents to an ambulatory care center and describes the following: "I have no friends in my new school, and I no longer want to go to college. I know I will be lonely there too." Which takes priority when speaking with the adolescent?

Answer:

Family environment and negative feelings around him/her.

Step-by-step explanation:

Imagine at this age everything is confusing and if the adolescent is looking for help is because he/she needs it urgently. When speaking with him/her we have to make him/her feel comfortable, start asking questions about his/her live, tell jokes, talk about your personal experiences too, explore other posibilities to study or choose a good career in the future and act in a friendly and respectful way. This is why I believe social interaction might be great and communicate with the adolescent all the time to know how is he/she doing every day is importat. Also, asking or visiting the adolescent's family to let them know that his/her child needs extra support and try to erase all these negative feelings in him/her by showing them that the world is beautiful and this is just a normal stage for them. Some people just need a friend or a simple word to feel they are not alone in the world.
