Expand the squared binomials:

(2x+4)^2=4x^2+16x+16

(x-5)^2=x^2-10x+25

Then

(4x^2+16x+16)-(x^2-10x+25)=3x^2+26x-9=26x

\implies3x^2-9=0

\implies3x^2=9

\implies x^2=3

\implies x=\pm\sqrt3
