and y be the number of word problem questions

then:

x+y=35

2x+7y=100

x=35–y

2(35–y)+7y=100

70–2y+7y=100

70+5y=100

5y=100–70

y=30/5=6

since x+y=35

then x+6=35

then x=35–6=29
