Explanation:

This is because you are actually combining the like terms by multiplication.

The same variable multiplied by itself is the same. This is because in reality:

x = 1x

They don't show the one x but there has to be one for the x to exist if there is 2 x's then it will be 2x but that's adding.

We know that exponents is a number times itself the amount of times the number says.

So x times itself would be x to the second power or squared.

the -70 is because a negative times a positive is negative. So -10 times 7.

You 100% don't need that extra x that you put in your answer box so remove it.

Side note: this symbol "^" or just ^ so you know to ignore the quotations I put around it it means the following number is an exponent.

The answer is going to be:

x^2 - 70
