12 gallons of water fill a tank to 3/4 capacity.

a. What is the capacity of the tank?
b. If the tank is then filled to capacity, how many half-gallon bottles can be filled with the water in the tank?

a. 16 gallons

b. 32 bottles

Explanation:

a. Let the capacity of the tank = x gallon

Therefore,
(3)/(4)x=12gallon


x=(4* 12)/(3)


x=(48)/(3)

x = 16 gallons

The capacity of the tank is 16 gallons.

If the tank is then filled to the capacity,

The number of
(1)/(2) gallon bottles can be filled =
(16)/((1)/(2) )

=
(16* 2)/(1)

= 32 bottles

32 bottles can be filled from the tank fill with capacity.
