Find a coefficient of x in –7x, and a coefficient of y in y.

So, from this definition, we can see that -7 is multiplied with the variable x.

So, the coefficient of x in -7x is -7.

The second expression is y.

We can rewrite this as 1y

We can see that 1 is multiplied with the variable y

Hence, the coefficient y in y is 1.

The coefficient of X would be the -7 because you are multiplying x by -7.

Because Y is by itself, there is no coefficient, but some people would say the coefficient is 1 because any number/ variable multiplied by one remains the same.
