For quadratic equation of form
ax^2+bx+c=0, roots are given by


x=(-b\pm √(b^2-4ac))/(2a)

On comparing equation
x^2-2x+20=0 with equation
ax^2+bx+c=0, we get
a=1\,,\,b=-2\,,\,c=20

Also, we know that
√(-1)=i

So,


x=(2\pm √(4-80))/(2)=(2\pm √(-76))/(2)=(2\pm 2√(19)i)/(2)=1\pm √(19)i
