Solution:

From question, given that:

Number of miles run by Mary in a day = 5

Also given that two third of the distance is through woods.

It means two third of the distance run by Mary in a day is through woods.

So two third of 5 miles run by Mary is through woods

Two third of 5 miles =
(2)/(3) * 5 = (10)/(3) = 3.33

= 3.33 miles

Hence for 3.33 miles, Mary was in the wood on her run.
