3x+2=x+4(x+2) how do you do it step by step?

Distribute 4 with x and 2 to get the equation 3x+2=x+4x+8. Combine x and 4x to get 5x. Minus 3x from each side. Now you should have 2=2x+8. Subtract 8 from both side to get -6=2x. Divide and you get x=-3
