A frame around a rectangular family portrait has a perimeter of 60 inches. The length is 15 inches less than 2 times the width. Find the length and width of the frame

Let x be the width of the rectangular family portrait , then its length will be 2x-15.

Formula to find perimeter :-


P=2(l+w)=2(2x-15+x)\\\\\Rightarrow\ P=2(3x-15)=6x-30 (1)

Since, the perimeter of the frame = 60 inches, then substitute P=60 in (1), we get


60=6x-30

Add 30 both sides , we get


6x=90

Divide 6 on both sides , we get


x=15

hence, Width = 15 inches

Length = 2(15)-15=15 inches.

Hence, the length and width of the frame are 15 inches by 15 inches.
