After the dismissal of monarchy, the aristocrats of Rome started to rein the Roman Kingdom. They were called Patricians. The royal families, nobles and rich families came under this class. Plebeians were working class people of Rome; they were mostly taken as slaves by the patricians. Plebeians could not tolerate the dominance of the Patricians and decided to secede.
This posed great threat to Patricians as they could not rule unless the support of plebeians is there in their daily life. Hence Patricians decided to adhere to the demands of the Plebeians.
Plebeians wanted a codified law which would safeguard their welfare. Their nonviolent protest to claim rights to rule themselves was acknowledged.
