The civil war not only impacted the American society but also the American economy. The American economy was caught in transition. Previously it was only an agricultural economy, but now it was in the initial stages of industrial revolution. This resulted America becoming world’s leading industrial power in the 20th century. But even in the second half of the 19th century, the South was predominantly agricultural. In the south, people saw slavery too. Hence, the south was satisfied with the agricultural economy more than the industrial economy.
