Jennifer’s class decides to make a quilt. Each of the 24 students will make a quilt square that is 8 inches on each side. When they sew the quilt together, every edge of each quilt square will lose 3/4 of an inch.

a. Draw one way the squares could be arranged to make a rectangular quilt. Then, find the perimeter of your arrangement.
b. Find the area of the quilt.

a). 130 inches

b). 1014 inch²

Explanation:

Each student will make a quilt square having each side of 8 inches.

Since each quilt square will lose
(3)/(4)th of an inch.

Therefore, each side will lose
2* (3)/(4)th of an inch.

So the each square quilt will be having measure of each side =
8-(3)/(2)

=
(16-3)/(2)

=
(13)/(2) inches

a). As shown in the figure length of the rectangle formed = 6.5×6 = 39 inches

Width of the rectangle = 6.5×4 = 26 inches

Perimeter of the rectangle = 2(length + width)

= 2(39 + 26)

= 2(65)

= 130 inches

b). Area of the quilt = 39×26 = 1014 inch²
