A grasshopper covered a distance of 5 yards in 9 equal hops. How many yards did the grasshopper travel on each hop?

a)5/9 yards=0.556yards

b)10/9 yards=1.11 yards

Explanation:

for the part a

To solve this exercise we must divide the total distance traveled by the grasshopper (5 yards) by the number of jumps that were made (9).


d=(5)/(9)

if you use the calculator you will realize that the value is 0.55yards

for the part b

knowing the distance traveled in a jump, we multiply this value by two to find out how much is the distance traveled in 2 jumps


d=(2x5)/(9) =(10)/(9)

if you use the calculator you will realize that the value is 1.11 yards
