bearing in mind that the slope goes by different names

rate of change

average rate of change

rise over run

deltaY over deltaX

and so on, however, is the same cat disguised in different costumes.

\bf (\stackrel{x_1}{-1}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{12})\qquad (\stackrel{x_2}{6}~,~\stackrel{y_2}{26}) \\\\\\ \stackrel{slope}{m}\implies \cfrac{\stackrel{rise} {\stackrel{y_2}{26}-\stackrel{y1}{12}}}{\underset{run} {\underset{x_2}{6}-\underset{x_1}{(-1)}}}\implies \cfrac{14}{6+1}\implies \cfrac{14}{7}\implies 2
