Oxygen needs a fuel to burn with. Oxygen tanks can explode if they contain flammable material, and in the presence of pressurized pure oxygen there is not much that can't become flammable. ... The actual cause of the explosion will be due to the increase in temperature and pressure exceeding the burst strength of the tank.
