PLEASE HELP ME ASAP!!

Two similar triangles are shown on the coordinate grid:

A coordinate grid is shown from positive 6 to negative 6 on the x-axis and from positive 6 to negative 6 on the y-axis. A triangle MNO is shown with vertex M on ordered pair negative 2, 4, vertex N on ordered pair 0, 0, and vertex O on ordered pair negative 6, negative 2. A triangle M prime N prime O prime is also shown with vertex M prime on ordered pair 1, 2, vertex N prime on ordered pair 0, 0, and vertex O prime on ordered pair 3, negative 1.
Which set of transformations has been performed on triangle MNO to form triangle M′N′O′? (5 points)

a
Dilation by a scale factor of 2 followed by reflection about the x-axis

b
Dilation by a scale factor of fraction 1 over 2 followed by reflection about the x-axis

c
Dilation by a scale factor of 2 followed by reflection about the y-axis

d
Dilation by a scale factor of fraction 1 over 2 followed by reflection about the y-axis

Answer:

D: Dilation of 1/2 and reflected across the y-axis.

Explanation:

The smaller triangle is half the size of the original, and the smaller (after dilation) is reflected across the y-axis to rest where it is now.

Answer:

d. Dilation by a scale factor of fraction 1 over 2 followed by reflection about the y-axis .

Explanation:

To know the transformation applied, we just need to look the graph.

ΔMNO is the original figure. You can see already that the original figure is bigger, that means the transformation must be down by a fractional scale factor, which give this result.

So, our answer must contain a dilatio of a scale factor of 1/2, because the original figure was decreased.

Now, if you look closer, notice that the vertical axis works as a mirror, in other words, both figures are kind of symmetrical regarding the vertical axis. That means the original triangle was reflected across the vertical axis. So, that's the second transformation.

Therefore, choice d. expresses all these transformations:

  • A dilation by a scale factor of 1/2.
  • A reflection across the y-axis.
