Saleem says 45 × 32 is the same as (45 × 3) + (45 × 2). Explain Saleem’s error using words, numbers, and/or pictures.

First we will evaluate the value of the expressions.


45* 32 = 1440


(45* 3) + (45* 2) = 225

Hence, Saleem made an error in the evaluation of product of 45 and 32.

Saleem did a mistake in placing the values that is in 32, 3 is at ten's place so he should have multiplied 45 by 30 instead of 3.

The product can be evaluated in a correct manner as:


(45* 30) + (45* 2) = 1350 + 90 = 1440
