Blem 5: James reads a 200-page book. 'On Monday he reads page 13 through page 31, next day he

reads page 47, Wednesday he decides to skip all remaining odd pages and just reads all
other even pages.
How many pages are still left James does not read yet?.​

Unread pages = (a) 1 - 12; (b) 32 - 46; (c) odd numbered pages from 48 - 200

The number of pages in each range is:

(a) n₁ = 12 - 1 + 1 = 12

(b) n₂ = 46 - 32 + 1 = 15

(c) n₃ = 200 - 48 + 1 =153

Half the pages are odd-numbered.

153/2 = 76½.

200 and 48 are both even so there are more even-numbered pages in the range.

There are 77 even-numbered and 76 odd-numbered pages.

The total of unread pages is

12 + 15 + 76 = 103
