A toy has various shaped objects that a child can push through matching holes. The area of the square hole is 8 square centimeters. The volume of a cube shaped block is 64 cubic centimeters. Part A Which edge length can you find? Explain. Part B Will the block for in the square hole? Explain.

Explanation:

A) The area of a square is A = s². The volume of a cube is V = s³. So we can find both side lengths.

B) The side length of the square is:

8 = s²

s = 2.83 cm

The side length of the cube is:

64 = s³

s = 4 cm

The cube will not fit through the square hole.
