First World War urged the Women to participate in War effort as the men were sent to wage war. There were many openings for women to contribute as a mark of patriotism in the war front.
Women were employed in munitions factories which were fatal for their livelihood, they were also employed as bus conductors, ticket collectors and drivers, few women also worked s sewers to stitch the uniforms for soldiers.
Due to performing the so called ‘men’s job’ encouraged women to undergo a drastic change in their clothing. Short skirts and trousers came into existence. Many men soldiers who were young and able bodied lost their lives in war which lead women being single or marry out of community.
