Early manifestations of a developing metabolic acidosis include headache.
What is metabolic acidosis ?
It is the accumulation of too much acid in the body fluids which indicates kidney or lung problems. It is an electrolyte disorder with high concentration of hydrogen ions or with low concentration of bicarbonate ions in the body.
This can be diagnosed by measuring serum electrolytes and testing arterial blood gases.
Early symptoms :
- Headache
- confusion
- lack of appetite
- fatigue
- rapid respiration
Late symptoms :
- vomiting
- high diabetes
- chronic kidney problems
- osteoporosis
- muscle loss
Treatment : Administer sodium bicarbonate to raise blood pH.
So from the above, we can conclude that early manifestations of a developing metabolic acidosis include headache.
