To begin with, you have to know the laws of the signs: In the addition and subtraction the equal signs they are added and the different signs are subtracted for example "-10-5" here both quantities have negative signs so your result will be negative "-" and the numbers are added 10 + 5 = 15 and as we said the result would be negative because it is the one that predominates then the answer would be "-15".

When we have "(10) - (- 5)" we can say "(-) (-) = (+)" (less for less = more) then here your result will be positive, then it would be (10) + (5) and this is equal to = 15

I'll use the example -5 - 2

To subtract, the easiest way for me to remember is just to temporarily ignore the negative sign in front of 5 and to add 5 and 2. You get 7, and just add a negative sign back in front of 7 and you get -7.

It's a lot easier if you try first on a number line so that you get the relationship between negatives first.
