Attached to the roof of a house are three solar panels, each 1 m x 2 m. Assume the equiv alent of 4 hrs of normally incident sunlight each day, and that all the incident light is absorbed and converted to heat. How many gallons of water can be heated from 40°C to 120°C each day?

Answer:

93.31 gallons of water

Step-by-step explanation:

given,

solar panels of size = 1 m x 2 m

number of solar panel = 3

now,

solar energy on earth = W = 1368 W/m²

energy of sun is only for 4 hrs.

E = (W×A)×t

= 1368 × 3 × 1 × 2 × 4 × 60 × 60

E = 118195200 J

energy produced by the solar panel will be used to heat the water

we know,

E = m c ΔT

118195200 = m × 4.18 × (120 - 40 )

m = 353454.5 g

m = 353.454 kg

1 kg = 0.264 gal

353.454 = 353.454 × 0.264 = 93.31 gallons

93.31 gallons of water can be heated using 3 solar panel.
