A farmer looks out into the barnyard and sees the pigs and the chickens. "I count 70 heads and 180 feet, How many pigs and chickens are there?

Number of pigs = 20

Number of chickens = 50

Explanation:

Let's assume that the number of pigs are P and the number of chickens are C.

As we know, chickens have 2 feet and pigs have 4 feet.

Then, according to question,

P+C = 70 (1)

4P + 2C = 180 (2)

By multiplying equation (1) by 2, we will have

2P+2C = 140 (3)

Now, subtract equation (3) from equation (2), we will get

2P = 40

=> P = 20

Now, by putting the value of P in equation (1),

20 + C = 70

=> C = 70 - 20

= 50

So , the number of pigs = 20

and the number of chickens = 50
