The easier way to find the vertex is writing the equation as follow :


y = a(x-h)^(2) + k

where (h,k) is the vertex

your equation is in the form of :


y=ax^(2) +bx +c

The easier way is to complete squares:


y = -(x^(2)-12x)-4 \\y = -(x^(2)-2(6x))-4 \\y = -(x^(2)-2(6x)+36-36)-4 \\y = -(x-6)^2+32 \\

So the vertex is (6,32
