The yield of strawberry plants depends on the amount of fertilizer fed to the plants. Agricultural research shows that an acre of strawberry plants will yield 550 pounds of strawberries when 50 cubic feet of fertilizer are applied. If 100 cubic of feet of fertilizer are applied, the yield will be 1100 pounds of strawberries. Use linear interpolation to estimate the yield if 78 cubic feet of fertilizer are applied.

Answer:

Y=858

Explanation:

Firsly, when you have 50 cubic feet of fertilizer the yield will be 550 pounds. We are going to use these values as a point in the space (X1,Y1). Equivalently, the second point (X2,Y2) is composed by (100,1100).

With these points, the next step is just repace in the next ecuation :

Note: 78 is the value of X factor

Y = Y1 + (X-X1) *((Y2-Y1))/((X2-X1))

Y = 550 + (78-50) *((1100-550))/((100-50))

Y=858

- Cubic feet of fertilizer = X values

- Pounds of strawberries = Y values
