Explanation:

Point-slope formula is short cut, fill-in-the-blank formula to write an equation of a line. If you know a point and the slope, you just fill them in, and voila! you have the equation.

The point is (X, Y) and the slope is m.

We will fill in (-2,5) for the (X,Y)...that is, -2 for X and 5 for Y. And then fill in -3/2 for m.

Here's the Point-slope equation:

y - Y = m(x - X)

y - 5 = -3/2 (x- -2)

Simplify the "minus a negative"

y - 5 = -3/2 (x + 2)

Make sure the parenthesis on the right is beside the whole fraction -3/2 and not on the bottom of the fraction.
